It seems simple enough to understand, doesn’t it?

Let’s be clear – you can’t make sales if you don’t have leads. But many businesses believe that the primary reason they are in business is to create products or provide services. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth.

Let’s sip some virtual tea for a moment…

What I learned a long time ago, is that you’re a marketer first. 

What your business does and what you are in business for are two separate things. It’s crucial that as a business owner, you don’t confuse these two concepts.

Your business may offer a service or even a multitude of services. At the same rate, your business may create products to sell to other businesses or consumers. Maybe your business does a little of both, but the point is that what you do is different from why you do what you do.

You are in business to make money. Period. If you think otherwise, soon you won’t have to worry about the answer.

Why?

Because you’ll be out of business and working for someone who clearly understands the concept.

Here is the simplest way to break down this concept – Every business runs on profit. Profits come from sales. Sales come from leads. Therefore, no leads mean no sales. No sales, in turn, mean no profits. No profits mean you’re no longer in business.

If you look at it this way, you can see that leads are directly and intimately connected to profits. Because of this, you can see that lead generation is probably one of the most important things that you can do as a business owner in order to guarantee that you stay in business.

One of the best ways to generate leads used to be through promotion. Promotions can take any form, but the primary purpose is to get visibility and exposure of your business among the general public, preferably your target market.

You needed to do this because where the people are is where your leads will come from.

Things have evolved now. It’s just not that simple anymore.

You still have to get attention, because when people know about your business, they also start to become familiar with you products and your services. This will make them realize that your products and/or your services can satisfy a need they might have or solve a problem they might need a solution for. So, consistency doens’t change at all here. 

But aside from that, they may simply become curious about who you are and what you do. Because of this curiosity and interest, you need to create a culture. You also need to have conversations that make sense.

Sure, they will visit your website and possibly check out your lead magnet.

It could happen.

But the reality is, your prospects need more than a lead magnet to make a decision about working with you.

I had a client recently that didn’t understand why her lead magnet wasn’t converting. I told her it could be that she’s trying to solve the WRONG problem. 

This is something common that I see with entrepreneurs.

It’s not about what you think people want, it’s about knowing your market and giving them what they need. 

It’s starts with getting clear and getting in alignment. You can’t manifest anything if you’re not clear on your intentions. 

What you need is:

Brand clarity + Brand strategy = Brand profits.

It used to be easy enough to include something enticing on your website that you would give away in exchange for names and email addresses. 

You can still do it, but getting consistent traffic to your website in the first place without ads would be your next task.
